Images of Response

Henri Cartier-Bresson

This is probably a picture of a little child, mainly a little girl in a army line. She is probably saying goodbye to a close family member going to war, probably her father or her mother. They are at an airport with men lined up on each side of the walk way, she's also holding a flag, which is probably her native country flag. The little girl is holding flowers which she will give to her loved one or whoever is going away. They look like they are at a very important ceremony, a going away ceremony. To me it is a real emotional and honorable moment for everyone who is there, it is mostly the most important to the little girl who is there and experiencing all of it.

"One Daughter" Questions

Meaning Question #1:
I think the main purpose of cisnero's essay is to show how she has always wanted to gain the approval of her father, no matter what she did, she could never get his approval and praise for anything she accomplished. She had six brother's and all her father wanted her to do was one day get married someday, she never married instead she went onto school and started writing, her father never thought much of it because he couldn't read in english. Growing up her whole life she thought she would soon be erased from her family because her father would tell everyone he had "seven sons", she always wished her father would say someday say six sons and "one daughter".

Writing Strategy # 4:
I believe the reason why cinsnero decribes in so much detail at the end of her story is to get the reader to see what she saw, and feel what she felt while all this was happening. She is trying to get the reader into her place and be where she was at that moment, the reader can then invision everything around and get a sense of the main idea of the setting and the mood. By knowing the the background details the reader can understand the story better and imagine more.

Critical Reading

The three methods that are helpful when reading a story are the title, the author, where the book was published and when the book was published. The title can sometimes tell you what the story is always going to be about, also by knowing the author’s life and background you can sometimes determine what the theme of the story will be. But also when and where the book was published is a big help too, like say if the book was published in 1605, you could then determine the book will most likely be an medieval kind of story. One of the methods I have used is always reading the title before the story, by reading the title even though it may only be one word, it can tell you all you may need to know about the story and maybe even more. These methods can also be helpful in other courses because it can give you the idea to always analysis over everything you are doing, and these methods show you how to go step by step to breakdown anything you may need to understand and make it easier for you master a concept.
